For my last 2.5 years in IBM, I worked remotely with a team in Austin, Texas.  In my last week, one of my colleagues who sometimes visits my web site suggested that I write an article for my site about what I did to be a successful remote team member.  I agreed it could be something fun to write about and because I have some free time tonight, I decided it take the time to do it.  If you are a remote worker and want some ideas or you are just curious about my approach, then read on...

In my last post, I hinted at another blog entry for this month...  And here it is...  This week is my last week working at IBM...  Starting on June 21st, I will be at TD Insurance in Montreal.  The last few weeks have been a wild ride for me and if you want to see my thoughts on all this, well... Then you know the drill, I won't say anything out here on the main page...  You need to click to read on... :)

I am currently working with a group of people internally to organize a virtual agile conference on whole teams.  This topic is one of my pet subjects with agile development, you hear a lot about how agile teams are self organizing and composed of team members that are able to fill multiple roles on the team.  The challenge that I see very often is that existing teams transitioning from waterfall to agile tend to keep working in their dev/qa/id silos and do not work any better as a whole team.  Through this conference, we are trying to pull out information from teams that have made a successful transition so they can pass along some of their experiences to others.  How do I feel about helping organize this?  It would not be a teaser if I did not encourage you to read on... :)

Around the mid-west labs in 72h PDF Print E-mail

This past week was crazy for me for a lot of different reasons, some of which I'll blog about later this month.  The story of this week started at the end of March when I was asked if I would be interested in doing some agile talks for some of the IBM Labs in the mid-west cluster.  I offered up some abstracts for some of my existing talks to the labs and let them decide if they wanted something out of those or if they would like me to create something new.  They all wanted some combination of my existing stuff...  They settled on dates a few weeks ago and this week, off to Austin, Dallas and Phoenix I went to give 4h workshops.  How did it go?  I could tell you here, but really, I would like it much more if you would just read on... :)

As a side note, on June 13th, I added some quotes from workshop participants to this article.

I made a new friend at a user group meeting recently and he started talking about some challenges he was facing with his team to transition them to agile software development.  He read a lot about the subject matter and wanted my opinion on what his team needed to do to be successful in their transition.  To read my thoughts on what they can do, please read on...
